End of Life Doulas

Helping your clients navigate healthcare by ELEVATING your medical knowledge

A MESSAGE TO END-OF-LIFE DOULAS: KNOWING THE REAL DEAL ABOUT HOSPICE MATTERS.

November is both National Hospice and Palliative Care Month and National Family Caregivers Month.

End-of-life doulas, this message is for YOU!

You are often invited into some of life’s most vulnerable moments. Families look to you for guidance, reassurance, education, and support as they navigate the final stages of life.

That’s an extraordinary responsibility.

But here’s something I want every end-of-life doula to consider:

How much do you really know about hospice and palliative care?

Your role is non-medical, but your influence on healthcare decisions can be significant. You may be the person who helps a family recognize that they need additional support, understand their options, and ask the right questions.

That makes hospice and palliative care education essential knowledge for your work.

I’m Dr. Kaishauna Guidry, hospice physician and founder of Mourning Dove Medical. I coauthored The Real Deal About Hospice: Short Stories Highlighting the Advantages of Hospice Care for Patients and Families with an end-of-life doula.

Why? Because I believe everyone who supports people through the end-of-life journey deserves to understand the REAL DEAL about hospice.

This book uses relatable stories to illustrate what hospice actually offers, how it supports families, and why it should not be reserved for the final days of life.

With approximately 63 million family caregivers in America, we have an enormous opportunity to improve education, advocacy, and access to quality care.

EOLDs: You can help change the conversation!

Let’s move beyond simply preparing people for death. Let’s help them understand how to live as well as possible through serious illness.

My mission is to EDUCATE and EMPOWER.

🕊️ Read the stories. Learn the fundamentals. Become a more informed advocate.
